Earth Science With Mrs. Booher

Topics Studied The Nature of Science Atmosphere and Weather Currents – Air and Water, Convection, Energy Transfers Rocks and the Rock Cycle Plate Tectonics and Landforms Geologic Time Solar System and SPACE

Grading Policies 5% HOMEWORK 35% CLASSWORK, QUIZZES, LABS, MINI-PROJECTS 60% TESTS, MAJOR PROJECTS

I do not offer ‘extra credit’. However, I do give students ways to help get better grades. 1.Test corrections: Corrections must be complete sentence answers on own paper, stapled to the test. Turn in within 4 school days of receiving test back. 2.Missing or unfinished work: Finish the work and show it to me within 2 days for a better score!

BOOKS There are no hardback books for home. Each student will receive a packet from the ‘work-text’ covering the current topic of study. When finished with a topic, packets should be removed from the binder and stored at home or at school in student files.

LAB POLICIES When we do a lab, students must be mindful of all classroom rules. Students who are not mindful of rules or who distract others will be given an alternate assignment. Students who make choices that could result in harm to another student or who damage materials will be sent to discipline.

LAB POLICIES, Cont. Lab policies may be implemented without ‘warning steps’; Rules are reviewed immediately before each lab activity. Disregarding lab guidelines impacts the rights of students who want to learn and may put others in danger.

HELP SESSIONS Help can be available after school until 2:50 PM or before school at 7:30 BY APPOINTMENT for students who – Need help with science concepts – Are behind on classwork and need to catch up – Need to retake a test or do a missing activity. Please arrange for help sessions AT LEAST ONE DAY ahead of time! (p hone or contact, please!

WISH LIST! Things we can always use: Kleenex Paper Towels Dry Erase Markers Colored Pencils Transparent tape Glue Sticks

Things I may call for later, for labs: PLAY DOUGH (December) PEEPS (February or March) Twizzlers and Skittles (March or April) Small Candies for rewards (Jolly Ranchers, mints, etc. NO GUM)

How to support your son/daughter in Science: Encourage Curiosity! Check the planner! Check the website! Contact me with questions or concerns! ( preferred – I will get back to you faster with than by phone )
