Earth – showing Australia and India

Earth Rise over the Moon

This image was taken from the Apollo 12 command module shortly after it left Earth orbit for its trip to the Moon. Lake Michigan is at upper left, the Red River in Texas is near the center of the image, and the Yucatan Peninsula is at lower right. The band of clouds is probably part of a frontal system in the Gulf of Mexico. The image is centered roughly at 35 N, 90 W and north is at 11:00. (Apollo 12, AS12-H )

This photograph was taken from Apollo 12 after leaving Earth orbit for its trip to the Moon. Mexico and Baja can be seen at upper left and the Yucatan and Central America are visible at the upper center of the image. The lower part of the image shows the Pacific Ocean. The black rectangular object above the clouds left of center is one of the four panels that protect the lunar module that were jettisoned at separation of the SIVB stage. (Apollo 12, AS12-H )
