Presentation transcript:

Fundations: I gave the weekend for my students to continue practicing Unit 5 words. I felt like the extra practice would be beneficial and wanted an extra day of review on Friday in light of walk-a-thon and the Halloween party. We will start Unit 6 on Wednesday...the family packet will be sent home that day. This is when it starts getting trickier!!! We will be learning a new syllable type...v-e (vowel consonant e), which means we start getting introduced to long vowel sounds. Please make sure your child is completing his/her Fundations packet a little each night! Homework: ***I included a lot for the rest of this week and next week on the back of this paper!!! Reading Log: “Little Bat” – read every night Math Log: Mon. – +/- fact trianglesTues. – +/- fact triangles Wed. – H.L. 3-7Thurs. – H.L. 3-8 Fri. - Chapter 3 study guide Fundations packet: U6 packet due Monday, 11/18/13 Important Announcements: Be sure to look at the back of this paper for the Homework Log No school tomorrow! 1 St round of conferences this Wednesday! I will write reminder times in the behavior calendar. Please be prompt! I have a full schedule. I will try hard to stick to 15 minute conferences. Report cards will be posted today. Please check after 4pm for final grades. I will go over report cards and any questions you may have at conferences. If you have questions about tardies or absences, please contact the office. It's definitely colder out! Please make sure your child is dressing in layers and comes with appropriate clothing to go outside. This includes hats, gloves/mittens, scarves, and boots (for snowy/muddy weather). Everyday Math This week we are finishing up Chapter 3 in math, focusing on place value. This week focuses a lot on making change. We'll spend a lot of time talking about a starting amount and counting up to an ending amount...the difference is the change we get back. For example, if we go to the store and buy a pencil for $0.52 but pay with $1.00, we will start at $0.52 and count up to $ I could count 8 pennies to $0.60 plus four dimes to $ that's $0.48, which is the change I should get back. This is a life skill that we all need to know, but the cool thing is your child is reviewing money concepts and place value at the same time. Our math test will be next Monday for Chapter 3, and then we start Chapter 4 on Tuesday. The Daily 5/CAFÉ time/Reading: This week we will use a Scholastic News issue to explore nocturnal animals. We will use the issue to develop our understanding of nonfiction text features and develop our vocabulary skills. We will continue with Stellaluna...we're focusing on using adjectives to describe the main character (Stellaluna) and how she changes from the beginning to the middle to the end, using evidence from the story. We will also talk about Stellaluna's point of view about particular things like eating and sleeping habits in the story. I'm planning next week to focus more on nonfiction bat information. The Bacher Blog For parents of students in Room 234 Monday, November 4, 2013 Science/Social Studies: This week we are finishing up our discussion on goods and services, as well as what makes a person a producer or a consumer and how to earn an income. Next week, we will switch back over to science partnered up with Mrs. Rogaliner, focusing on making observations Recommended Website: A link for place value games... The Daily 5/Work on Writing There are only a handful of students finishing their final copies of their monster writing projects...you'll see some hanging up for conferences in the hall...be sure to check them out! This week we will work more on writing, focusing on developing ideas and adding details to our writing. Next week, we'll be taking what we learn this week and writing about our shoe.
