Do Now 1. How do plants get their own food? 2. The following equation is the chemical equation for photosynthesis. What is missing to complete this equation?

Announcements  Unit test will be on Thursday.  Homework (2 nd and 3 rd blocks)

Agenda  Cell Stations  Introduction to healthy living  Healthy living activities

Cell stations  Make sure that you are staying focused. You’ll have about 8 minutes per station to begin.  I may adjust time depending on work habits.

Big ideas from cells  Cell theory:  All living things are made of cells.  Cells are the basic units of structure and function in an organism.  Cell’s come only from the replication (mitosis and meiosis) of existing cells.

Big ideas from cells  Prokaryotic/eukaryotic cells  Different because of structure:  Prokaryotic: no nucleus  Eukaryotic: membrane bound organelles  Autotroph/heterotroph:  Autotrophs: make own food  Heterotrophs: eat other things

Big ideas from cells  Plant cells vs. Animal cells:  Plants contain cell wall and chloroplasts where animal cell does not.

Healthy living  Life style choices, environmental factors, and genetics can cause abnormalities to occur during embryonic development as well as later in life. Human activities such as smoking, consumption of alcohol and the use of drugs lead to a variety of adverse conditions within the human body and interfere with the efficient operation of the systems of the body

Healthy living  What are some lifestyle choices we make that might interfere with our longevity?

Healthy living stations  Make sure that you are staying focused.
