Welcome to Year 7 ICT Ysgol Dewi Sant’s ICT Department

Objectives  To be aware of the ICT room rules.  To understand good file management  To know what subjects you will study.  To know how your work will be assessed

Objectives ICT Room Rules : Starter  Work in pairs (talk in partner- voices – that means only the person next to you should hear you speak).  Unless given permission do not play computer games or access the Internet.  All research on the Internet must be work related.  No changing of screen savers  No rocking of chairs.

Objectives File Management : Discussion  Why do we need to give files sensible names?  What is the benefit of using a folder structure to store work on the computer?

Year 7 Units You will study 7 units this year which cover a range of topics including:  Presentations  Spreadsheet Modelling  Web Reliability & Bias (cross curricular)  E-Safety  Control  Desk Top Publishing (cross curricular)

Objectives Presenting Information  Complete a PowerPoint presentation all about yourself to present to your peers.  Think about audience and purpose.  Adapt it for a different audience – an adult audience.

Objectives Web Reliability & Bias  Learn about what makes information on a website reliable.  Find out how to use Google to efficiently search the Internet.

Objectives E-Safety  Learn about the risks that using the Internet can raise  Learn how to use the Internet and electronic communication safely

Objectives Spreadsheet Modelling  Learn how to use basic formulae.  Compare using ICT for calculation with other methods, e.g. pen & paper.  Predict the outcome of making changes to a model.  Create charts from data.

Objectives Control  Learn how computers are used to control devices in everyday life.  Create flowcharts to create your own simulated traffic lights and greenhouse.

Objectives How will I be assessed?  At the end of each unit either yourself or your teacher will evaluate your work against an assessment marking grid.

Objectives File Management : Starter Activity  Create a new folder called ‘ICT’.  If you haven’t already, create some other subject folders.  Make sure all your files are in the correct folders.  Make sure all the names you have given your files are meaningful, if not rename them. File ->Rename
