AN APPROACH OF CONCEPT MAP IN CREATING IDEA FOR GAME DESIGNER BY HANAFIZAN HUSSAIN

INTRODUCTION Concept map has been developed by Joseph Novak and his colleagues in 1970s Is a diagrammatic technique of knowledge representation Using semi-hierarchical as the metaphor and semantics.

Example of Concept Map by IHMC

Concept map for brainstorming Individual Brainstorming – use of brainstorming on a solitary basis. Usually a visual note taking technique. Brainstorming should be addressed specific question. More effective in idea-generation

Usage in education and business Note taking, new knowledge creation, institutional knowledge preservation, collaborative knowledge modeling, and facilitating the creation and understanding shared vision. Instructional design, training concept map, increasing meaningful learning Communicating complex idea and arguments

Examining the symmetry of complex idea Detailing the structure of an idea Enhancing meta cognition Improving language ability Knowledge elicitation Assessing learner understanding Lexicon development

Concept map for game designer Game designer has various of ideas and creation. They have to grab the ability to visualize the information for increasing the level of creativity. At the beginning the capability of transferring the idea on paper-based concept map. Using concept map approaches.

Game Creation At the beginning using paper-based concept map before move on the computer-based concept map. Paper-based are more freely in exploding the ideas specially in new game development

Example paper-based concept map

Game Tools The process of interacting within the game. As game evolves, it defines and redefines its own form. The synergies for integration between knowledge and information visualization can be developed the better knowledge models.

Future capabilities More focus on ideation in generating game genre Extendable educational platform in using concept map as tools to visualize idea. The use of knowledge model in organising idea. Information visualisation will be research more deeper.
