Dietrich Bonhoeffer In 1943, Nazi Germany pressed hard to get endorsements from religious leaders for the persecution of Jews. Led by the Catholic Church in Rome, most religious leaders explained away the obvious satanic actions of Hitler. It was understood that to stand against Hitler meant death.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer Bonhoeffer was known for his brilliant theological writings. What he did in WWII overshadowed anything that he had written prior to the war. The Lutheran preacher joined the resistance against his national leader and was captured in 1943.

Being Alone Bonhoeffer was taken to a camp where he had to learn how to be alone.

Being Alone Two years in captivity caused Bonhoeffer to long for Christian fellowship. He found it incredibly difficult to coexist with nonbelievers in Jesus who prayed every day for deliverance.

Before the Beatitudes Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungered.
