Academic Committee Mission The primary forum for the academic community within CII to provide its expertise in both research methodology and subject matter to the institute. CII Research Total 201 teams started, 177 teams completed, 24 teams in progress. # of Teams About 140 different Principal Investigators (PIs). Average 1.8 PIs per team last five years. # of Academics 50+ different universities have worked with CII. # of Universities 15 to 20 industry members from different companies each team. # of Industry Practitioners Over 600 publications # of Products 18

CII Knowledge Structure 19 Classification system to organize CII publications –14 Knowledge Areas → 65 Focus Areas = 15 Best Practices + 28 other Practices + 22 information Areas CII Best Practice A process or method that, when executed effectively, leads to enhanced project performance. CII Best Practices have been proven through extensive industry use and/or validation. CII Other Practice A process or method that may become a Best Practice, but has not been sufficiently proven. Information Area Provides findings only, not processes or methods, but these CII research findings are of value to industry.

CII Knowledge Structure A Knowledge Area is defined as logical grouping of CII topical areas and reflects project phases or specific topics, project management techniques or issues. A Focus Area is defined as a distinct area of CII research emphasis that has led to research publications/products. 20 Ref: IR Category or grouping of topic areas CII Best Practices, Other Practices, or Information Areas.

Use of Publications in Classroom Copyrights –For educational use, academics can reproduce and distribute CII products without modification. –Academics can post CII publications on their secured institution intranet. –If products require modification for use, CII permission must first be obtained (contact CII Publications Office at 29
