LANGUAGE – WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? ? It’s an essential part of our everyday life. We use language to tell people how we feel, what we want, and to understand the world around us. Language – words, gestures, and pictures communicate anything we can think of. Communication builds relationships and friendships. Language connects us to our culture, our family, and our place of birth.

Tagalog The word comes from tagailog: tagá - meaning "native of" and ílog - meaning "river". Thus, it means "river dweller". The first written record of Tagalog was done in 900 AD. That’s over 1,000 years ago! Tagalog was made the official language of the Philippines in Question: How old do you think the English language is? Over 1,500 years old!

Tagalog Language Timeline Early texts found in the Philippines were a combination of Sanskrit (Indian), Malay (Malaysian) and Javanese (Indonesian). The Abakada Alphabet ( ) combines 350 years of Spanish influence and 40 years of English influence. The modern Filipino Alphabet (1987) used today incorporates a bit of Spanish influence with the two added ‘N’ sounds but also has all of the English Alphabet letters.
