Adult education and the Eastern Partnership Countries Brussels, 17 June 2015 Gina Ebner, EAEA Secretary General

EAEA – a short introduction It works with adult education and lifelong learning It concentrates on the non-formal sector It is an association with 123 members, from 42 countries (+ 18 candidate members), representing 5000 associations, reaching million adults in Europe We have (candidate) members in all ENP countries

Why adult education? Basic skills Employability and entrepreneurship Personal development Active citizenship and democracy Political efficacy Social inclusion and cohesion Active aging and intergenerational learning

Our proposals Share the development of European tools (EQF, etc.) Enable participation in programmes such as Erasmus+ and Europe for Citizens (with additional funds) Enable participation in the European Agenda for adult learning Support structures and projects that aim at activating citizens, build their capacity in advocacy and support grassroots structures (esp. umbrellas)

More proposals Establish lifelong learning strategies with a strong adult education stream in it More strategies are necessary to reach out to groups that are hard-to-reach Support groups such as people living in rural areas, the low-skilled and socially disadvantaged through wide-reaching adult learning initiatives that tackle life &basic skills but also active citizenship

THANK YOU! Thank you!
