Child Rights Monitoring in Eastern Europe and Central Asia EUROSTAT March 2015

UNICEF Goals Progressive Realization of Children’s Rights to Survival, Development and Protection and Reduced Equity Gaps In Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, national developmental indicators can appear quite good – but national averages can mask significant disparities between those who have and those who have not. 2

Positive National Trends In our region equity gaps in a number of areas are smaller compared to other regions and access to services continues to improve. Example: Skilled Delivery Care 3

But the not so good news is... Despite economic and social gains in our region, there are still persistent equity gaps 4

Other Examples of Statistical Systems Strengthening Efforts in the Region: Collaboration with the Washington Group on Disability Statistics and NSOs on the devt and testing of tools and methods for collecting data on people/children with disabilities. (Montenegro, Serbia, Kazakhstan) Support to NSS in establishing real-time monitoring systems e.g. Turkey e-EMIS, Romania ISS, Kyrgyzstan e-register etc. Support to NSO’s to introduce a deprivation module to their HBS (Azerbaijan & Ukraine) Capacity building on ESSPROS (BiH) Support for additional analysis and dissemination of statistics (Kyrgystan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Albania, etc.) TA for surveys and census (Moldova, Georgia)
