Athletics Tasmania PROGRAM DETAILS QUALIFICATION ENTRY STANDARDS

ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT SQUAD PURPOSE AND AIMS  THE KEY PURPOSE OF THIS SQUAD IS TO IDENTIFY, RECOGNISE, AND ASSIST, IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF TALENTED EMERGING ATHLETES AGED 13 – 19 YEARS OF AGE WITH POTENTIAL AND MOTIVATION TO COMMIT TO THE SPORT, AND WORK TO ATTAIN NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE STANDARDS.  ATHLETICS TASMANIA IS COMMITTED TO SUPPORT THESE ATHLETES AND THEIR COACHES ALONG A PATHWAY THAT PROVIDES APPROPRIATE DEVELOPMENT TO A CAREER IN TRACK AND FIELD.  THIS GROUP WILL BE A MAJOR FOCUS OF TRACK AND FIELD DEVELOPMENT IN TASMANIA. ATHLETICS TASMANIA ARE COMMITED TO THE PROVISION OF OPPORTUNITY FOR ATHLETES TO PROGRESS ALONG THE PATHWAY TO SUCCEED AT THEIR SPORT.

SELECTION/CONTINUENCE CRITERIA  TO AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFY, ATHLETES NEED TO ACHIEVE A LEGAL PERFORMANCE OF THE STANDARD AS DETAILED, IN THE CURRENT SEASON. THESE ATHLETES SHOULD NOTE THE CONDITIONS BELOW.  ALL INTENDING MEMBERS WILL NEED TO COMPLETE AN APPLICATION FORM.  STANDARDS ARE BASED ON A PERCENTAGE LOADING ON AVERAGE OF 3 RD PLACE AT NATIONAL UNDERAGE EVENTS AS PER THE NSWIS ET PROGRAM. NATIONAL EVENT QUALIFYING STANDARDS ARE NOT RELEVANT AS THEY ARE NOT BASED ON EQUAL QUALITY OF PERFORMANCE. THESE STANDARDS MAY BE SUBJECT TO AMENDMENT IF CIRCUMSTANCES WARRANT IT.  SELECTION PANEL: THE ATHLETICS TASMANIA TRACK AND FIELD SELECTION PANEL TOGETHER WITH THE AT DEVELOPMENT OFFICER OR HIS DELEGATE. THE PANEL MAY USE DISCRETION IN APPOINTING ADDITIONAL ATHLETES IN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES. THIS DISCRETION IS ABSOLUTE AND NEED NOT BE APPLIED.

SELECTION AND CONTINUENCE CRITERIA  SQUAD PERIOD BASED ON 1 st APRIL – 31 st MARCH. MEMBERSHIP IS FOR ONE YEAR RENEWABLE BASED ON PERFORMANCE AND BASED ON THE 12 MONTHS FOLLOWING THE SEASON WHEN THE PERFORMANCE WAS DONE.  AGE IS BASED ON YEAR OF BIRTH AS PER AA POLICY. ATHLETES ARE ASSESSED AT DATE OF PERFORMANCE. (APPLIES PARTICULARLY TO PERFORMANCES PRIOR TO JAN 1 ST ).  SHOW COMMITMENT AND FOCUS TO TRACK AND FIELD AS THEIR PRIMARY SPORT.  CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETES AT TOP 5 LEVEL AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS MAY ALSO BE CONSIDERED.  SQUAD ATHLETES, OR INTENDING SQUAD ATHLETES, ARE EXPECTED TO COMPETE AT THE TASMANIAN STATE T&F CHAMPIONSHIPS (Junior and or Open). ATHLETES UNABLE TO COMPETE SHOULD INDICATE REASONS TO THE CHAIRMAN OF SELECTORS. ATHLETES NOT COMPLYING WITH THIS EXPECTATION RISK NOT BEING ACCEPTED INTO THE SQUAD.  SQUAD ATHLETESARE EXPECTED TO PARTAKE IN 10 HOURS OF COACHING AND 10 HOURS OF OFFICIATING. THIS WILL BE DEFINED PRIOR TO THE TRACK AND FIELD SEASON  DISCRETIONARY FACTORS CONSIDERED BY THE SELECTION PANEL MAY INCLUDE: * ATHLETE’S POTENTIAL, AND COMMITMENT TO ATHS TAS EVENTS AND DEVTSQUAD ACTIVITIES. MERELY BEING CLOSE TO THE STANDARD DOES NOT CONSTITUTE EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES.

SELECTION AND CONTINUENCE CRITERIA  ATHLETES MUST BE REGISTERED MEMBERS OF ATHLETICS TASMANIA.  THE ATHLETES COACH MUST BE AFFILIATED WITH ATHLETICS AUSTRALIA, OR PROGRESSING TOWARDS THIS WITHIN THE NEXT 3 MONTHS.  NB. ATHLETES MAY ALSO APPLY IF INJURY HAS AFFECTED THEIR CURRENT SEASON’S PERFORMANCE PROVIDED THEIR PREVIOUS SEASON’S PERFORMANCE WAS AT THE STANDARD APPLICABLE FOR THEIR AGE AT THE TIME. CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION TO THE SELECTORS WHOSE DECISION WILL BE FINAL.  SELECTION PROCESS IS FOLLOWING THE DOMESTIC SEASON AND SQUAD NAMED AT THE ATHS TAS. ANNUAL DINNER AND PRESENTATION FUNCTION.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS FOR ATHLETES AND COACHES INCLUDES  RECOGNITION  INCREASED ACCESS TO SPECIALIST SUPPORT SERVICES INCLUDING CLINICS, TECHNICAL HELP, SPORTS SCIENCE  TRAINING APPAREL  ASSISTANCE WITH PROGRAM AND EVENT PLANNING  PRIORITY ACCESS TO GENERAL AND SPECIFIC CAMPS, SESSIONS, AND OTHER COMPETITION/EDUCATIONAL OPTIONS  ASSISTANCE WITH PROGRESSION TO SENIOR LEVEL COMPETITION  ASSISTANCE WITH ANY ISSUES AND HURDLES THE ATHLETE AND COACH MAY FACE
