Benchmarks The things we use to estimate length, weight or capacity are called benchmarks.

Length Benchmarks Millimeter- The width of a dime. Centimeter- The length of a paper clip. Inch- The bend in your pointer finger. Foot- A floor tile Yard- From the floor to the doorknob.

More Length Benchmarks Meter- The length from the tip of your finger to your opposite shoulder. Kilometer- A little more than half a mile Mile- Fifteen football fields

Weight Benchmarks Ounce- a feather Gram- a dime Pound- a box of sugar Kilogram- a two liter of coke

Capacity Benchmarks Milliliter- medicine dropper Teaspoon- a spoon full Cup- a coffee cup full Pint – a small carton of ice cream

More Capacity Benchmarks Quart- A juice bottle about medium size Liter- half of a 2 liter of coke Gallon- a large carton of milk

Fahrenheit and Celsius Benchmark Temperatures Celsius Scale Fahrenheit Scale Water Freezes 0° C 32° F Comfortable Indoor Temperature 20° C 68° F Normal Body Temperature 37° C 98.6° F Hot Day 40° C 100° F
