Patient: Madison Age: 25 Gender: Female Height: 5’5” Weight: 140 Vital Signs: HR: 62 Respiratory rate: 14 Blood Pressure: 110/82 Temperature: 97.8 Fahrenheit Chief complaint Does not like appearance of teeth and experiencing sensitivity Medical Alert None Name of Syndrome:Amelogenesis Imperfecta Pitted Hypoplastic -Subcategory of Hypoplastic amelogenesis imperfecta (Type I of the four types of Amelogenesis Imperfecta) Cause of Syndrome - Medical History (if applicable) -Autosomal dominant inheritance pattern- this gene maps to the long arm of chromosome 4 (4q11-13) -The hypoplastic type of amelogenesis imperfecta is characterized by tooth enamel that does not develop to a normal thickness because of failure of the ameloblasts to lay down the enamel matrix properly.

Orofacial Clinical Features -The enamel is not formed to a full normal thickness -Random pits on the enamel -Pit size varies from pinpoint to pinhead -Occur mostly on the labial and buccal surfaces of permanent teeth -Can occur in primary and permanent teeth -Greater risk for extrinsic staining, and their abnormally thin enamel layer that reveals the yellow color of dentin beneath the enamel. -Teeth are not especially susceptible to caries unless the enamel is insufficient and easily damaged - Teeth may be sensitive or prone to disintegration Age/race/sex predilections and Systemic Clinical Features: -There is no sex predilections -No race predilections -Age: Visible when teeth erupt -No systemic clinical features- it is not associated with other defects in the body or other health problems Radiographic Features of this Syndrome -Enamel is thinner than normal -Enamel contrasts with dentin

Special considerations in Treatment of this patient? How is it Diagnosed? How common is it? Is it a horse or zebra? Treatment: Esthetic dentistry, operative procedures (mainly crowns) Diagnosis: Clinical and family history -Prevalence for Amelogenesis imperfecta is 1 in 700 to 1 in 1,500 -Amelogenesis Imperfecta Pitted Hypoplastic is the most common type in the subcategory of Hypoplastic amelogenesis imperfecta (Type I of the four types of Amelogenesis Imperfecta). -Zebra
