DMI 57 Brain Anatomy Exercise

Excerpt from Ortega y Gasset So many things fail to interest us simply because they don’t find in us enough surfaces on which to live. What we need to do is to increase the number of planes in our mind, so that a much larger number of themes can find a place in it at the same time.

Identifying anatomic structures once the lecture has take place… The purpose of this class is to learn to identify anatomy on your own You need to build your own confidence and learn to take risks This class is about learning, not about always being right Don’t be so worried about your grade – instead, worry about learning the material

Identifying anatomic structures once the lecture has take place… If you’ve forgotten which anatomic structures are which, or are not sure which structures the arrows are pointing to: – Compare with your text – Give it your best guess, then, compare it to your text – Ask a radiologist, radiation oncologist, dosimetrist, technologist, radiation therapist, etc. – Check a website

New announcements There will be a quiz on the structures of the brain on Friday, February 19th – It will be similar to the quiz given on Friday, 5 th The first section of the Semester Long Project is due on Friday, February 19th

Purposes of this exercise Evaluate images in order to recognize anatomic structures in multiple planes Distinguish between anatomic structures Describe the shape and location of anatomic structures

Instructions Have a blank sheet of notebook paper available Try to answer as many of the questions as possible Review and evaluate the images and identify the anatomic structures marked by the colored arrows Write the answer on a sheet of notebook paper – Do not be concerned if you cannot answer the questions This is practice – not a quiz – Many of them will be answered later on during the lecture You may use your text You may quietly and calmly contrast and compare your findings with your neighbor

Which three structures make up the hind brain?

Which of the three hindbrain structures is: Most anterior? Most inferior? Most posterior?

Name the ventricles Which ventricles are paired?

Which ventricle(s): Is most inferior? Looks like part of an exclamation point? Have anterior horns?

Which arteries comprise the Circle of Willis?

Identifying anatomic structures once the lecture has take place… If you’ve forgotten which anatomic structures are which, or are not sure which structures the arrows are pointing to: – Compare with your text – Give it your best guess, then, compare it to your text – Ask a radiologist, radiation oncologist, dosimetrist, technologist, radiation therapist, etc. – Check a website

Quiz and Semester Long Project announcement There will be a quiz on the structures of the brain on Friday, February 19th – It will be similar to the quiz given on Friday, 5 th The first section of the Semester Long Project is due on Friday, February 19th
