The ACE Study Drs. Vincent Felitti & Dr. Robert Anda 17,000 Kaiser patients in San Diego - middle-aged, middle-class, mostly employed residents of San Diego Surveyed about childhood maltreatment and family dysfunction Compared with risk factors that contribute to morbidity and mortality The ACE Study: Findings ACEs are common – 65% have one <20% have three or more Results suggested that childhood maltreatment and household dysfunction contribute to the development – decades later – of the chronic diseases that are most common causes of death and disability in the US.
