BRU-38 Bomb Racks TW-1 Stan 1 June 2009

BRU-38/A As of 5 June 2009, BRU-38/A bomb racks have replaced PMBRs Differences: –BRU-38/A is shorter and 14 lbs heavier than PMBR. –BRU-38/A has a new sway bolt and sway brace assembly with spring-loaded feet. –BRU-38/A has Station Safety Indicators for each bomb station. BRU-38/A attaches to pylon just like the PMBR

BRU-38/A Cockpit, nose wheel well and pylon preflight remains the same BRU-38/A preflight: –Ensure Station Safety Indicator is in “SAFE” position (oriented vertically) at each station –Ensure each bomb is secure to rack: Visually inspect each spring foot sway bolt is properly compressed (a small gap should be present at top of spring sway bolt assembly, but NOT at bomb “foot”) DO NOT “tug” on bomb! (unlike PMBR, it won’t move, and could inadvertently release spring foot)

Ground Safety Pin (same as PMBR)

Station Safety Indicator “SAFE” (Pre-flight Inspection)

Properly Swayed Note gaps present at top of spring sway bolt assembly

Properly Compressed

Improperly Compressed

Sway Bolt Assemblies Correct Indication (gap present at top of sway bolt assembly) Incorrect Indication (no gap present at top of sway bolt assembly) Correct Indication (no gap present at bottom of sway bolt assembly) Incorrect Indication (gap present at bottom of sway bolt assembly)

Selector Switch (Pre-flight Inspection)

Arming During Arming, ordnance personnel will: –Set Station Selector Switch to position “1” –Set each Station Safety Indicator to “READY” –Pull Ground Safety Pin from each pylon and show it to the aircrew

Safety Switches Ready for Flight (post-Arming)
