Instructional Plan Template | Slide 2 Instructional Plan Template Instructions This is the template for creating your instructional plan throughout this course, which follows ADDIE instructional design practices. (Note: Review all slides in this template before you begin.) Follow the instructions provided on each slide for the three parts of this assignment. You will need to add your content to this template as defined below for each week. In addition, you will need to submit the entire template for each due date so that the instructor is able to view your work from previous weeks. Instructional Plan Template | Slide 2 Needs Assessment 1.What is the learning problem or opportunity? There are not enough trained and qualified emergency medical technicians. 2. What is currently available? There are no courses available at this time for Emergency Medical Technical/Paramedic. 3.What should be available? A complete course with both instructional and hands on training in the field 4. Explain the gap analysis between what is available and what should be available. There are no courses of this available and it may be due to not having qualified instructors available to teach. 5.What is your recommended solution for filling the gap? Create an outreach to bring in qualified instructors and implement a solid program instructor and team with the existing hospital to have a good foundation.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 4 Performance-Based Objectives Identify two PBOs following the below guidelines: A – audience – There is a great need for Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians B – behavior – Good candidates are those that are healthy and strong and willing to work under pressure C – conditions – Students will learn how to treat injuries, administering IV’s, assessing the patient, bleeding control. D – Students who complete the 24 month course will a real- world training in emergency situations and how to maintain patience under pressure and strive for a professional attitude.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 5 Summative Assessment and Learning Outcomes Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians care for the sick or injured in an emergency medical setting. People’s lives depend on the quick knowledgeable reaction and competent care administered by this profession. Paramedics and EMT’s work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. The work is physically strenuous and can be stressful involving life-or-death situations (EMT and Paramedic: Career Information, 2013). Some of the skills that will be obtained through the course are: Determines that the scene is safe Assesses injuries of victims Verbalizes general impression of the patient Determines chief complaint/apparent life-threats

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 6 Learner Characteristics A prospective candidate must have a high school diploma before training to become an EMT. There are three levels of training for those that desire this profession EMT-Basic EMT-Intermediate Paramedic After completion the student must be licensed by the state they are working in and pass the NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) Exam. Some states have their own certification exams which EMT’s are paramedics must pass in order to practice. Most paramedics and EMT’s will receive an Associates degree and the course work includes anatomy, physiology and advanced medical skills. A paramedic may eventually become a supervisor, operations manager, administrative director or executive director of emergency services and some will often become instructors.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 7 The Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic course includes: The first 6 months of the EMT/Paramedic training will take place in a school setting. Courses are offered Accelerated (Weekdays), Weekend, and Evening courses For the Accelerated course, classes meet Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (with an hour for lunch) After completing the course and passing the exam, another portion will be ride-alongs and are scheduled individually. The final step after clinicals and ride-alongs will be the testing phase. Many students will attend lectures, participate in interactive presentations, skills labs, and simulations, this will complete all aspects of the training process. Students will then sit for their examinations to become certified. Once all the criteria has been met, students will be eligible for hire and can continue refresher courses. Licenses are usually good for two years and students will need to keep up their skills through continued education. Learning Context

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 8 54 Delivery Modality This EMT/Paramedic training course has two separate areas of learning. The first portion of the course will be held in a classroom setting. Students will attend school depending on which course track they have chosen. The curriculum will be the same, but depending on the timeframe of the course. Students must pass each section of the course before being able to move to the next section. The second portion of the course will be on the field training. The student will attend ride along hands on training in an ambulance setting. The student will be supervised at all times and this portion will last 6 weeks and be scheduled depending on the availability of the ambulance company. The student will be evaluated and given approval to proceed to the second portion only after completing the classroom section.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 9 Instructional Strategies The EMT/Paramedic courses are taught in two sections over a twelve month period. The first six months will be in a classroom setting Assessing each student throughout the twelve month period will be imperative to the success of the program for the individual. Instructors will monitor and work side by side with the student to insure safety and progression of skill sets.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 10 Plan for Implementation Classes will be offered M-F from 8:00am to 2:00pm, or on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Each class will also have a Academic support class that students are encouraged to attend in the evenings, M-F from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Students must complete each section that is taught and staff will review by tests or quizzes weekly. The class is taught by a Certified Paramedic and throughout the classroom training, police and medical professionals will also be a part of the training program to ensure that each student has the proper skill set needed to proceed to section two. Section two will then be taught and observed by certified professionals within the field and no student will be allowed to practice on a patient without having a professional on site.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 11 Instructional Resources Each student will be required to complete the classroom courses before being able to train with paramedic professionals. Course books will be offered on the first day of class and students will be required to have a laptop or tablet to do homework and follow certain links for training. In the ride along portion of the course, students will be provided with medical equipment such as stethoscope, blood pressure cuff and other items as needed.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 12 Formative Assessment Assessments include Basic Life Support Training Practical Skills Exams Written Exams and quizzes The adult education instructor will participate in the vocational classes to monitor students for safety and to assess progress Certification tests will be given as the final examination and qualifying candidates will receive Academic and Skills certification.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 13 Once the course is completed students will have the capability to work as a paramedic/EMT. Student will be a part of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and be licensed in the state they preside in. Licensure will be good for 2 years and then Paramedics must comply with continuing education units or (CEU). The fee for the application is $ and paramedic must submit documentation verifying completion of state-approved Paramedic (NRP) refresher course or 48 hours of equivalent continuing education covering the mandatory and flexible core topics specified within the last 2 years. Instructional Plan Template | Slide 14 Outcome Review Periodically paramedics will be assessed for performance by attending a simulation course. This course offers for high-pressure scenario simulation-based assessments. This type of assessment is a good benchmark for new paramedics and also for those that have been in the field for a while. It allows students to be tested in high pressure situations without having to work on live patients. It gives a good assessment of preparedness and allows for students to understand their strengths and weaknesses.

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 15 Recommendations Paramedics are the most highly trained of EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) working in the U.S. The training is both mental and physical. They are required to pass many courses and to be qualified and trained in emergent situations. Some of the requirements are: Perform Cardiac support for heart attack victims Perform emergency respiratory procedures for people with blocked airways Administer IV (intravenous) fluids Bandage wounds Perform emergency childbirth procedures While paramedics are not nurses or physicians, many times the training and being in the field leads to them continuing their education and many do go on to become higher medical professionals. The job can be stressful in many ways but satisfaction can come to those that truly have a calling for urgent care.
