Milestones: 1.Agreement to develop short and long sets of internationally comparable disability measures using the ICF as a framework; census questions a priority 2.Equalization of opportunities selected as purpose of short measure 3.Developed a comparable testing methodology 4.Tested and revised questions 5.Short set adopted. 6.Extended question set on functioning (ES-F) finalized 7.Module on Child Functioning and Disability developed with UNICEF – testing underway 8.Extended set on the environment (ES-E) for children and adults currently under development.

From Bangkok to Amman: 12 th Annual Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand: Oct, 2012 The meeting was attended by 40 persons: 20 representing national statistical authorities from 18 countries 7 from universities, national institutes of public health, other national research bodies or government ministries 3 from the National Center for Health Statistics (WG Secretariat) 3 from Disabled Person’s Organizations 7 from international organizations (UNESCAP, WHO, EU Agency for Fundamental Rights)

Main Objectives: 12 th meeting in Bangkok Present results of country reports using WG short set questions in surveys / censuses Present additional work on extended set (functioning): Results from further analyses of data from the US National Health Interview Survey Present additional work on the development of questions on child functioning and disability Presentation of proposed question set Present work on extended sets of questions on environmental factors and participation

Major accomplishments in Bangkok and beyond Development of a Module on Child Functioning and Disability (with UNICEF) Module finalized for cognitive testing Mumbai, India: September, 2012 USA: winter 2012/2013 Belmopan, Belize: January, 2013 Muscat, Oman: April, 2013 Podgorica, Montenegro: July, 2013 Protocol for field testing under development Module on facilitators and barriers to school participation is currently under development.

Major accomplishments in Bangkok and beyond Training & cognitive testing of the short set of questions carried out in preparation for national censuses in: Amman, Jordan (May, 2013) and Bogotá, Colombia (August, 2013).

Collaborations: The WG has a long history of collaboration with other international organizations: UNICEF UNESCAP World Bank World Health Organization UN Dept. of Social & Economic Affairs as well as many Non-Governmental and Disabled Person’s Organizations and National Statistical Offices

WHO/WB World Report on Disability World Report on Disability (WHO/WB) International launch, New York, June, 2011 WR recommendations with respect to the WG: It is important that the routine collection of disability data become incorporated into national statistics programs. The questions developed by the WG and BI provide a core set that can be expanded to meet country needs. NSOs are encouraged to actively participate in the WG as a means of improving data quality, comparability, and availability.

Main Objectives for 13 th meeting Review and approve analyses of results of country data collection using the WG Short Question Set (WG SS): presentation of further analysis of country reports of data obtained from surveys and Censuses Review and approve guidelines for analyzing data derived from the WG Extended Question Set on Functioning (WS ES-F): presentation of analyses of data from the US National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) Finalize and adopt the WG/UNICEF Module on Child Functioning and Disability: present results of cognitive tests and proposed revisions based on the tests

Session 3: WG Extended Set on Functioning Session 3 focuses on additional analytic work carried out on the Extended set of questions on Functioning (ES-F). Review of the development the ES-F Presentation of results from analyses of data from the US National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) Discussion on strategies and plans for further analyses of data from the NHIS and possibilities for the expansion of cognitive and field testing of the ES-F to other regions Discussion and approval of guidelines for analyzing data obtained from the WG ES-F
