Current Global Situation on Membership Development Zone 4 RIMZC PDG Ceramic

( I ) Preface ( 1 ) It is almost 92 years, the Rotary membership developed so fast We hit the number 1.21 Million. After then, there was a dramatic three years decrease. ( 2 ) ,RI President,Richard King,proposed a special request “Rotary’s Global Quest” The result was an immediate growth, our membership increased almost 55,000 in one year.We had the number 1.24 Million , it shrank again. ( Attachment A~E )

( I ) Preface ( 3 ) , RI President Jonathan Majiyagbe understood about the importance of membership development. Except for the emphasis on poverty alleviation, literacy and education, health concern, he particularly put on “The Family of Rotary” as our main concept.Through serving and caring the non- Rotarian, such as spouse and children, widow or widower of passed Rotarians and other community associates, we should be able to improve our rotary image. This “Family of Rotary” concept promotes retentiopn and encourages clubs to continually communicates with and involve all Rotarian family members in programs and projects.

Membership Development Recognition programs Members are Rotary’s essential resource. To Maximize Rotary’s humanitarian efforts throughout the world, it is important for clubs to retain current members while continuing to identify qualified new members.

( 1 ) Rotary International Membership Development & Extension Award program This annual standardized program was established in June 1997, was initiated on 1 July 1998.

( 1 ) Rotary International Membership Development & Extension Award program This award allows Governors to identify a winning club in the following categories; (A)Highest growth Rate (B)Inducting the most new members (C)Highest retention rate (D)Sponsoring a new Rotary Club A district is also recognized for achieving its established membership goal Time frame 1 July 2003 ─── 15 May 2004 The recognition certificates are signed by RI President.

( 2 ) Recognition of Membership Initiatives New ideas and approaches, programs, and tools are imperative for building and maintaining membership, and for Securing the long-term health of the association. The innovative approach will focus on one of the three primary foundations of membership: retention, recruitment of qualified new members, or organizing new Rotary clubs. Club entry to their DG ── Not later than 1 Apr DG submit one innovative club to RI ── by 15 Apr Highlight: 2004 RI convention in Osaka. Rotary’s various communication tools.

( 3 ) Retention Recognition Program Retention is a critical factor in RI Membership efforts. Two-year Recognition Award. Time frame: 1 July 2002 ── 1 April st year : 1 July 2002 ── 30 June nd year : 1 July 2003 ── 1 April 2004 Dead line 30 July 2003 : 2002~03 DG mail qualified application forms for club and district. 1 April 2004 : 2003~04 DG do the same thing.

( 4 ) Presidential Citation Criteria: ( A ) Achieving 3 % net growth. ( B ) Developing a retention plan to slow attrition to less than 3% ( C ) Conducting a membership seminar at the club level. ( D ) Conducting projects within each of the four Avenues of Service according to the size of the club. ( E ) Increasing local media coverage and pubic relations efforts. ( F ) Activities supporting the Family of Rotary concept are encouraged. Criteria completed : by 1 April 2004 Forms submitted to RI : by 15 April 2004

( IV ) Conclusion ( 1 ) Membership Development will help your club more professional experts to support your community service. ( 2 ) The additional people to take on leadership and committee roles. ( 3 ) Every new Rotarian brings a rang of personal and Professional resources and knowledge that can greatly strengthen your club’s ability to serve throughout the community and the world. ( 4 ) The continuation of Rotary International and its local clubs depends on continued membership growth and development efforts.
