Reception Curriculum Meeting

Early Years Curriculum  Play based  What to expect, when? – (Guidance to your child’s learning and development in the early years foundation stage)  Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage

We will provide experiences & support to help your child to… Be positive and respect others. Be interested, excited and motivated to learn. Be confident and form good relationships with adults and peers. In reception we will build on each child's diverse experiences to ensure that they acquire the basic skills they need to lay the foundations for their future schooling….

Literacy RWI Curriculum Meetings - Wednesday 4 th November – 6pm - Thursday 5 th November – 9am Book Bags Please ensure your child brings their book bag to school every day. Starting on Monday 14 th September your child will choose a library book on a Monday and a Friday. Phonics Books will come home every Friday, starting Friday 18 th September, and need to be returned by the following Thursday.

Literacy Ways to help your child learn to read Handout in pack Importance of bedtime story.

Expectation for Reading at the end of Reception Early Learning Goal Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

Reading

Expectation for Writing at the end of Reception Early Learning Goal Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Writing

Numeracy Numeracy all around us Vocabulary - Handout Ways to help your child

Numbers Plan a picnic with me and let me decide how many sandwiches and bananas we will need. Show me a number before we leave for school. Who can find that number? Play number snap or bingo with numbers that we’ve cut out of a magazine. Sing number songs where I have to count backwards like “Five Little Ducks” or “Ten Fat Sausages”.

Expectation for Numbers at the end of Reception Early Learning Goal Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

Ways to help your child Shape, space and measure Let me sort out the pairs of shoes so that they go from small to big. Let me make patterns with buttons or lids, like “big, small, big”. Let me give you instructions for an obstacle course, like “Go under the blanket”, “Go through the tunnel” and “Go behind the chair”.

Expectation for Shape, Space and Measure at the end of Reception Early Learning Goal Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

Online Learning Journals Reception will be using an online program called Tapestry to record your child’s progress and development. Tapestry meeting for new parents will be held in October. Date to be confirmed!
