President Jefferson decided to purchase Louisiana from the French because…  It was unconstitutional  Jefferson privately tried to purpose a constitutional amendment be passed  Jefferson's friend pointed out his wrongs in the amendment  Jefferson submitted the treaty to senate

What ultimately led President Polk to provoke war with Mexico?  Polk wants Texas because of manifest destiny.  South was FOR Texas because it is a slave state. (Mexicans would own them)  North was AGAINST Texas because they would become a slave state.

 The phrase “manifest destiny” expressed the belief that the U.S. was ordained to expand the pacific ocean and into Mexican and native territory.
