PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON ENDORSES A+ SCHOOLS A+ IN THE NEWS

Criteria for Levels of Engagement Ongoing A+ Professional Development Teacher Engagement Principal Leadership Distinguished

SCHOOL VISION How present is A+ in your school mission and vision? Developing: We are trying to figure out how A+ connects with what we already do. Proficient: A+ is a part of our mission and vision. Accomplished: A+ is a prominent and important part of our mission and vision. Distinguished: A+ is woven seamlessly into the day to day business of educating our students.

SCHOOL VOICE If a visitor walked through your school community, who would be able to tell them about A+ and how it impacts your school? Developing: We still aren’t really sure what A+ really is ourselves, how can we tell others? Proficient: Most of our teachers could probably share what A+ is. Accomplished: Everyone on our staff and many of our students and parents can talk about A+. Distinguished: Our entire school community, including our students, parents, partners, district folks and even our brand new teachers can all talk about the impact of A+ on our school community.

SCHOOL VISIBILITY Can anyone tell you are an A+ School when they arrive at your website, marketing materials, school building or school events? Developing: We have an A+ sign in our lobby. Proficient: We’ve got the old A+ logo on our website and materials, but we have lots of art on the walls. Accomplished: We’ve updated our website and materials with the new logo and have our history as an A+ school on our website. Our halls are filled with the sights and sounds of arts integration. Distinguished: Everywhere you look, you will see something that tells you that we are A+. It is such a part of everything we do, we want everyone to know we are part of the A+ Schools Network!

LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT Based on your thinking for the prior questions, where would you place your school on your current level of engagement? 1: We are brand new to A+ and still developing! 2: We have recently re-engaged with A+ and are developing 3: We are proficient and looking at where to go next 4: We are fully engaged and accomplished with A+ 5: We are a model A+ school, that’s in the distinguished category!

 Continuing the Conversation: Where is our school in its implementation of the A+ Essentials? Where do we need to grow and develop?  Vision, Voice and Visibility: What is our commitment as a member of the A+ Schools Network?  Needs Assessment: What are our most pressing needs? How are we supporting new staff? Where do we go from here? ALL A+ SCHOOLS SHOULD BE SELF ASSESSING!!

ONGOING A+ PD  FUNDING IS AVAILABLE!!  For quality PD, need to schedule at least 1 month in advance.  All A+ Schools that have committed to remaining A+ need to plan for on-going A+ staff development.  Full staff PD; art or subject specific PD; new curriculum support; collaboration and teambuilding; coaching; demonstration teaching; school-to-school Networking; facilitated A+ School visits; think out-of-the-box  Don’t forget your new teachers!
