Kari Collins, LCSW Policy Advisor Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities The Practicalities of Change Transforming Systems

Change To make Different To Replace To Alter To make radically different - TRANSFORM

Transformation Transformation…”something more than mere change” (Poutiatine, 2011). “radical shift from one state of being to another, so significant it requires a shift of culture, behavior, and mindset...” (Anderson & Anderson, 2001).

While all transformation is change….. Not all change is transformation

Three Types of Change Traditional Transitional Transformational

Transformation as a Process Awakening Vision Methods Learning, and Integration

Method: Implementation Science Implementation Research: A Synthesis of the Literature Fixsen, D. L., Naoom, S. F., Blase, K. A., Friedman, R. M. & Wallace, F. (2005)

Leading Transformational Change “Leaders do not need to know all the answers. They do need to ask the right questions.” Heifetz, Laurie A leader needs to possess a sense of urgency and drive to envision and create the future – They lead in a direction where the “destination” is unknown. The challenge for those that travel with such leaders is to trust and support the vision and the journey. Daszko, Sheinberg

The Solution Solutions to transformational challenges reside not solely in the office of formal leadership but in the collective intelligence of persons at all levels, who need to use one another as resources, often across boundaries, and learn their way to those solutions.
