!It’s the Law! If students are not in school, they are not learning!If students are not in school, they are not learning! Students that are chronically absent always fall behind and are at risk of not graduating Classmates of frequent absentees are also affected Teachers have to spend time reviewing work than presenting new material

How many absences does it take for it to begin to impact student achievement? (throughout the year)

Missing Classes Puts Graduation at Risk % that Graduated in Four years Days Absent per Semester (The Consortium on Chicago School Research at the University of Chicago).

LAUSD ATTENDANCE GOAL The LAUSD Performance Meter Goal is for students to maintain a Proficient/Advanced attendance rate of 96% or higher throughout the school year. This means that students must have: No more than one absence for every five weeks (25 instructional days) of school No more than SEVEN TOTAL absences in the school year

HOW WILL THE PSA COUNSELOR SUPPORT STAFF, STUDENTS AND FAMILIES? Intensive Intervention and Recovery Services Conduct individual student/family assessments Participate in multi-disciplinary teams (SART, COST, SST, etc.) School Attendance Review Board (SARB) Refer students to credit recovery and alternative education programs Refer families to resources

What role do school staff (Principal, AP, Coordinators, Teachers, and other support staff) play in improving our attendance rates?

Consequences of not submitting accurate attendance:  Audit Liability  Average Daily Attendance (ADA)  Parent Inquiries  Identification of students with Attendance Problems or extended absences.  SARB/Court Cases BIG PICTURE: Inaccurate Attendance Accounting

Attendance Taking-Identification of No Shows In order for student to be identified as a “No Show” all teachers must mark student as absent. 3 rd and 4 th Period Teachers please submit attendance on MiSiS and submit paper attendance roster to room 119.
