Where are we going? Tells me where To put my hope

The goal is not To find what makes me feel better But to find what's true…

Creation- who am I and why am I here?

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it…

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him” - Gen. 1:27, 2:18 (She is a gift…)

Image of God= Representative Responsible for how I treat: Spouse, Child (Gifts from God) Other People Environment/Nature

Fall- What's the problem? "You're just a little baby…"

"I think God's holding out On us…"

Death of intimacy- "ashamed" Death of unselfishness- "that woman you gave me…"

To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you”

Naked and unashamed Replaced with Hiding and Struggle for control

And to Adam he said… "Cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field…"

"By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken…" - Gen. 3:16-19

None of us Gets to look down on The rest of us…

…from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.

All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person - Jesus, Mark 7:21-23

Your greatest enemy isn't society

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? - Jeremiah 17:9 Even the heart is affected

Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin - Jesus, John 8:34 It produces slavery To self

And you can't escape on your own …it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy - Rom. 9:16

Fall: What's the problem? Innate sinfulness Curse Free will

Fall: What's the problem? Absolute Fallenness Infects everything So give Smith Elementary kids some boundaries…

Fallenness= Take credit when things are good Blame God when they go bad

Pain, sorrow, suffering Don't come from God But from Fallenness Every good gift is from God

Growing a Child's Heart= Moralism vs. Connecting the Good

Level Ground: We're all fallen and need rescue "Be kind- everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle"- Plato

Redemption: What's the Solution?

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God - 2 Cor. 5:21

God's primary answer Isn't better government Or even more laws It's changed people By grace through faith in Christ

"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old is passing away. Behold, the new has come!" - 2 Cor. 5:17

Behavior Modification Won't do it…

For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous - Romans 5:19

She hated herself Until she found how much Jesus loved and valued her

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus - Gal. 3:28 New Community- grace, love, patience, forgiveness…

All have the potential To become what God Created them to be Therefore…?

All Church Community is Fallen But can become Grace-filled, loving, affirming Therefore…?

Redemption: What's the Solution? - Jesus - His People Living and Sharing Truth

Implications: - Self-effort vs. God's Spirit - Behavior-Modification vs. New Creation - Societal Laws vs. Changed Hearts

Restoration: Where are we going?

And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment…

to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ - Eph. 1:9-10

Perfection and Things Set Right…

Restoration: Where are we going? - Perfection - Realization of Original Creation

Do I know who I am And why I'm here? Is it seen in how I treat People and my world?

What do I see As the problem? Why?

Have I applied the solution? Am I living it out in Community? Am I sharing it?

Where's my hope? Why?
