The Background John Calvin lived in the 16 th Century. Calvinism began in the 1530’s when he and many others broke away from the Roman Catholic Church. John Calvin wrote “Institutes of the Christian Religion” in Calvinism is commonly summarized by the 5 Point acronym T.U.L.I.P.

5 Points of Calvinism T.otal Heredity Depravity: all born in sin. U.nconditional Election: Individualized predestination. L.imited Atonement: Jesus’ death is only for a limited number of people. I.rresistable Grace: Salvation is 100% God’s choice. P.erseverance of the Saints: Because this is God’s choice, once He saves you, you are always saved.
