Objectives 30.1 Levels of Organization Describe how the human body is organized. Explain homeostasis.
The levels of organization in the human body include: Cells Tissues Organs Organ systems
Cells A cell is the smallest unit of life.
Tissues A tissue is a group of cells that come together to form a particular function.
Types of Tissues: 1. The tissue that lines the inside and outside of the body is epithelial tissue.
2. Tissue that provides support for the body and connects its parts is connective tissue.
3. Nerve impulses are transmitted throughout the body by nervous tissue.
4. Movements of the body are possible because of muscle tissue.
Organs A group of different types of tissues that work together to perform a single or several related functions is called an organ.
Organ Systems An organ system is a group of organs that perform closely related functions.
Homeostasis Homeostasis describes the ability of an organism to maintain a constant internal environment despite changes in external environments.
