Why resumes? A resume is a document that presents your skills and experience for employment The average time an employer looks at a resume is 7 seconds, so it’s important to make a good first impression!!

Types of resumes Chronological – lists jobs in order, starting with the most recent Functional – focuses on your skills and experience Combination – lists your skills and experience first, then your employment history Targeted – customized for the kind of job you are seeking

Sections of a resume Contact information (address, phone number, address) Job objective or career summary Employment history, including responsibilities and achievements Education – schools you attended, degrees you obtained, Skills section – highlights your skills

Top tips for resume writing Check your spelling! Use a good font! Make it readable… Serif – more traditional – Times New Roman San-serif – more modern – Arial Use keywords such as “team player,” and “customer service” Templates can give you a good start, but you should customize as much as possible
