The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act prevents universities from disclosing a student’s educational records or personally identifiable information from their educational records without written consent, unless a specific exception applies. FERPA-protected information may not be released in any form that would make it identifiable to the student.

 Student employment records are part of their “educational records”.  FERPA doesn’t apply to law enforcement records  Heath and safety emergency exception is only for imminent threats  Academic committee meetings in public forum may not discuss student academic records

 The attendance policy of each instructor is to be submitted in writing to each student at the beginning of the course. Attendance is likely to affect the student’s achievement and it is at the instructor’s discretion as to how class attendance and participation are factored into the student’s overall grade for the course.

 When a student must be away from campus for an extenuating circumstance, and particularly if longer than 3 days or more, notification for student absences will be issued by the Dean of Students Office, or Documentation is required. This notification does not change attendance policies put in effect by the instructor and is a courtesy memo only, letting the instructor know the whereabouts of the student. Using this process to determine excused absences and/or work assignments is determined by the

 Regular Session (semester courses) Can ADD/DROP during first 7 calendar days or 5 business days on Access Stout. Can DROP during first 14 calendar days via AccessStout. ADDs after 7 days or drops after 14 days require a Program Card

 Cumulative GPA under 2.0  Conditionally admitted as a new student or transfer  Readmitted after leaving UW-Stout while on probation or when dismissed for academic reasons

 Cumulative GPA under 2.0 at the end of two consecutive semesters  Term GPA is less than 1.0 Academic probation is not a prerequisite for dismissal due to a term GPA below a 1.0 Students may appeal academic dismissal if they feel they had extenuating circumstances leading to their dismissal

For some students who appeal, the DoS may require the Program Director to support the students appeal Close to graduation Been in the program for more than a year Performing poorly in core classes

 Students can appeal a grade if: Error in computation Grading was based on factors other than those stated in the syllabus or that were prejudicial or capricious. Appeal must be made within one year from time assigned The student bears the burden of proof in establishing existence of above factors.
