Mahamaya Girls’ College Alumnae Association of North America (MGCAANA) The Association  MGCAANA is a voluntarily led, non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Washington in March,2005. The association received the federal non-profit organization status retroactively in August 4, The Purpose  To build, foster and promote goodwill and fellowship among former students of Mahamaya Girls’ College residing in North America, and individuals closely associated with Mahamaya Girls’ College.  To promote excellence in academic and non-academic activities of current students of Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy, Sri Lanka

Vidya Scholarship Trust Fund (VSTF)  VSTF was initiated in 2009 and is one of the oldest projects carried out by MGCAANA.  VSTF is a legal trust which provides financial aid to economically disadvantaged students at Mahamaya Girls’ College.  The report of VSTF will be presented later. 5K run/walk All MGCAANA members and honorary members as well as family and friends were invited to participate in a fun walk/run event during the Fall of Proceeds from this event will be used for various projects run by the organization. Crochet Scarf Project President Sriyani Dissanayaka created beautiful crochet swirly scarves that were sold to members and well wishers of MGCAANA. One scarf was sold for $10, two for $15, and three for $25, and shipping and handling was added to the cost. All proceeds will be used for projects run by the organization. MGCAANA Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarship Program This scholarship is awarded to two Mahamaya Girls' College alumnae pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in the US and Canada. The scholarship award amount was increased to $ each, thanks to an anonymous donation from a beloved member of MGCAANA. One of these scholarships will be awarded in memory of Mrs. N. K. Pilapitiya. Annual Charity Donation A donation of $100 was made to the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation (DAREF). o DAREF is a 501(c) 3 organization committed to the prevention and treatment of diabetes and to the funding of research aimed at finding a cure for diabetes and diabetes related complications. Newsletter Maya Puwath, our bi-monthly newsletter was published in a timely manner. Mahamaya Girls’ College Alumnae Association of North America (MGCAANA)

Nanda Pussegoda Leula Memorial Scholarship (NPLMS)  This newly established project provides financial aid to economically-disadvantaged students at Mahamaya Girls' College as well as to a student-run organization at Mahamaya to perform a community service project, using a personal donation in memory of Mahamaya alumna and MGCAANA member late Mrs. Nanda Pussegoda Leula.  A detailed report on the progress of this project will be presented by the NPLMS Committee.

Social Welfare Committee Social welfare committee organized an alms giving program in the United States and Canada on the 3 month anniversary of the passing of our past principal Mrs. Pilapitiya. –States include Seattle, Florida, Texas, DC metro area (VA, MD and Washington DC at WV temple) and California in the U.S. and Edmonton, Winnipeg and Manitoba in Canada. When long-time honorary auditor Mr. Wickremasurya was hospitalized we sent flowers and cards with best wishes for a quick recovery. Social Welfare Committee cont’d When several of our alumnae lost their loved ones parents and spouses) during this year, we shared their grievances by participating within our limitations. When MGCAANA family had new babies during the year, we rejoiced with the new parents by our participation as an organization. Contacting Members & Membership Renewal For the Year , the BOD contacted the MGCAANA Membership to;  Inquire about their preferences in joining one of the committees, the BOD or to become an officer in MGCAANA  Request the members to renew their membership  Inform them about the online voting system.
