Pennsylvania -Settled by William Penn and the Quakers -Believed in non-violence Rhode Island -Founded by Roger Williams -safe home for religion dissenters (people who were against the Church of England) How were the people in the colonies persecuted? Native Americans -Varied -Colonists needed help with farming & building homes, but some people were hostile & fought the natives for resources

How were people persecuted in the colonies? Slaves -Colonists first enslaved some Native Americans (unsuccessful) -Imported African slaves along the triangular trade route -This route allowed crops, products, and slaves to be exchanged between N. America, Europe, & Africa -This last leg of the triangle is known as the Middle Pass age (from Africa to N.America) -Indentured Servant- eventually gained freedom
