Integrating FableVision Software into the Curriculum Watertown Public Schools

WPS 3 rd Grades Pilot FableVision T-I-P (Technology in Practice) course for all 3 rd grade teachers across district. Trained in SmartMoves, Stationery Studio, and Animation-ish. All programs work together to create a learning environment that is rich in 21 st century skills.

SmartMoves What is SmartMoves? Stand up and try!

SmartMoves “SmartMoves™ is an award-winning cognitive fitness program that combines music and movement to transform the classroom and change the way students learn. Improves focus, attention, and retention. Activates students’ brains for optimal learning. Immediately reduces stress and improves mood.”

Stationery Studio “What is Stationery Studio? Stationery Studio is an easy-to-use writing tool that inspires even the most reluctant writer. It supports the writing process by hand and at the computer. Gets children writing! Provides curriculum-based activities and inspirational designs. Helps students create books, essays, reports, letters, and more. Boosts technology literacy skills.”

Examples

Animation-ish What is Animation-ish? “Animation-ish is the world's easiest animation software program, designed to have users animating their drawings in minutes. The program's simple-to- use tools, engaging design, and multiple levels offer a fun, rewarding experience that gives even a novice animator or reluctant artist the courage to create.”

Animation-ish Animation-ish promotes the integration of technology into all subject areas as it encourages students’ creativity and self-expression…important 21 st century skills.

Examples from the Classroom Maggie Mattson’s 3 rd grade class animates and writes about magnetism as an end of unit science project assessment.

Examples from the Classroom BJ Feeney utilized the tool to illustrate simple machines. This project, by a third grade student, was done to map new vocabulary of an expository book with a visual representation of the concept.

Examples From the Classroom Vicky Kherlopian’s 3 rd grade class wrote science poems about “curiosity” and animated them using Animation-ish. These poems were entered into MIT’s Curiosity Challenge. Three students won and received a plaque in a ceremony at Walker Memorial in Cambridge!

Mrs. Kherlopian’s VoiceThread

FableVision software has been an excellent opportunity for teachers to allow seamless integration of 21 st century skills and technology into the curriculum. Thank you to the 3 rd grade teachers who participated in the T-I-P course this year for all their work and creativity. Also, thank you to FableVision for the opportunity afforded to WPS to use this tool. Thank You
