Example 2 Question: Should Violent Video Games Be Banned?] Body Para1 Admittedly, there is some merit to the claim that violent video games serve to decrease self- control. Some violent video games actually discourage players from exercising self-control by rewarding antisocial behaviours like stealing cars and killing other characters. Consequently, in-game actions may translate to more aggressive behavior in real life. These findings obviously give rise to valid worries that the rise of violent video games in the market will have a dire impact on our young generation and create a dysfunctional society in the future.

Example 2 cont’d Body Para 2 However it can be also argued that violent video games provide an alternative outlet for stress and anger relief. Rather than venting their daily frustrations and anger on others, a majority of boys play video games to help get their anger out and to relax. The negative emotions these boys feel are not denied, but channelled towards a safer objective that does not harm anyone. In fact, such negative feelings are then transferred into a sense of accomplishment and even pleasure as they reach their goals. Are games not then in fact a safer alternative platform in comparison to real- life physical altercation? Though many still worry that gamers may act out with violence, there is empirical data to prove that violent video games remain a mere depiction of one’s superiority in the game, and nowhere else.
