Bugscope …Teach your students about bugs in a new and dynamic way!!

What is Bugscope? Bugscope is a free remote teaching program. It’s a tool for teachers to use when teaching science

How does Bugscope work? Send dead insect specimens to The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Specimens are prepared for viewing under the electron microscope at UIUC. Submit an application online Bugscope experts make contact to set up a practice run.

What do I need to do this? Projection screen High speed internet connection Prepared specimens A room large enough to accommodate your class

Why should I teach bugs using Bugscope?  Compare and contrast various insects  Promotes authentic learning  Develop greater curiosity  And more

Prior to the Bugscope “field trip”  Student preparation  Trade books  Research  Writing  Hands on activity or investigation  Generate questions from the above experiences

During the Buscope “field trip”  Students see what they have read about, and then generate more questions  Experts are available to answer new questions  Students made connections between classroom learning and images on the screen.
