Creative Communication with 4-H Posters General 4-H Poster Requirements Characteristics of Good Posters Forming Poster Ideas Poster Tips Poster Scorecard Review A good poster does not happen by accident!

General 4-H Poster Requirements 22" X 28" (measure carefully!) Display horizontally Cover with clear plastic (do not use Saran Wrap) Include name label in lower right hand corner Display with stiff backing Name Label 28” 22” Question: What is the difference in a poster and a display board?

Good Posters… Follow the specific project requirements Focus on one main idea Show your thought process or methods Are self-explanatory Are simple and clear

Good Posters… are NOT vertical are NOT covered with Saran Wrap are NOT fluorescent posters are NOT all words or all pictures do NOT use staples, tacks, or tape

A Good Poster… Grabs the viewer's attention immediately Helps the viewer to focus on the main idea Interests the viewer in some aspect of your project Causes the viewer to take action

When Forming Poster Ideas… Brainstorm ideas and make a list Use titles with alliteration (repeating a sound in words) PPotent PowerPoint Presentations WWorld Wide Web Wonders Look at other posters for ideas – but don’t copy

Poster Tips Be as neat as you can Cut evenly, apply adhesive carefully, blend colors when using crayons or colored pencils Leave white space on the poster Make sure the poster is balanced Experiment with various colors, shapes, textures, and dimensions
