Youth Fest 2013

Fun Friends-friends and youth/adult partners valued. Education-Expanded program education beyond the show ring. A deeper understanding of the cattle feeding business.

FEEDING CATTLE IS SOMETIMES….. LIKE GAMBLING

–Market animals are identified during the December ID period. –Youth sign up for the program. They provide an to communicate with the county office on details. 5

Animals are brought to the Edgewood Livestock Commission in June. They are weighed, scanned and placed into pens. The participants use their feed records to finish their records. A display board is made….

The student is evaluated by the judge on cattle uniformity, knowledge, management and performance. EVALUATION

INNOVATIVE AG/ PURINA Steve Wagner- prices all products and norms them to a standard number. Reduces the variance of costs to the youth if you norm the cost of corn and other high value inputs. Some costs are specific to the child.

Clayton County Cattlemen and Dairy Producers Sponsor all the trophies for the program. Pay for all the scanning cost for the program. Provide a meal to the participants while they do their calculations. Help with the weigh-in and scanning of cattle. Line up Edgewood Livestock Commission for the program. Provide shirts to participants.
