Who can attend LSSC full time? Seniors who have earned at least 12 credits at the college. Seniors who have earned 3.5 GPA at LMHS and 3.0 GPA at LSSC. All coursework must be taken through LSCC only Courses can’t be taken at your high school, or through FLVS, or LCVS.

QUALIFED TEST SCORES ARE: READINGWRITINGMATH MATH* PERT ACT SAT FCAT/FSA262 (YOU CAN SKIP READING/WRITING FOR PERT)

QUALIFED TEST SCORES ARE: LSSC ACCEPTS THE HIGHEST TEST SCORES ON ANY OF THE TESTS OR COMBINATION OF TESTS LISTED. YOU MUST MEET ALL THE REQUIRED SCORES TO BE QUALIFIED TO DE. IF YOU FAILED A SUBTEST, PLEASE COME TO GUIDANCE CORNER FOR A SUMMER PERT RETAKE.

After testing what should you do? If you met the required testing scores, then you will receive a DE application to take to Lake Sumter before June 8 th or no later than June 8th. After June 8 th, you will need to plan to attend the college in the Fall. After return the application, you will receive a LSSC-X-ID Number. You need to remember this number. You need to activate your LAKEHAWK mail account. Then register to attend SOAR (Orientation—Mandatory for all new students) See SUMMER CHECKLIST FOR MORE INFO.

ORIENTATION You will receive help on how to register for classes. Campus walk tour Receive a DE student information packet *counselors won’t be able to help you with registration for classes, so pay attention to the orientation.

After Orientation You need to register for the classes that you want to take. You ARE NOT required to take two classes this summer. You can take 1 course if you want to. Once you register for class (es), you need to print a copy of your course selection and bring it to see a counselor for the approval form (A.K.A fee waiver form). Don’t wait for the last day to submit the Approval form. Any counselor can sign the Approval form for you. Approval form will pay for your DE classes and books. If you don’t turn it on time then your classes will be dropped. You won’t need to attend orientation every semester, but you will need an Approval form every time you register for classes.

COURSE LOAD During the first semester of DE, students will be able to register for a maximum of 2 classes. Once a student has demonstrated the ability to master advanced courses, they are then permitted to enroll in 11 credit hours. That can be two classes if you take science with labs. 1 course at the college is equate to 3 credit hours, BUT you will see either 1 credit or ½ in your high school transcript.

Course Load Lake county pays for your classes and books. Counselors have a list of approved classes that you can select from. Lake Sumter offers many other classes which you won’t be able to take. If you register for the wrong class, your counselor will ask you to go back and select an appropriate course. Counselors will also warn you of classes which you should stay away from. If you choose to ignore our warnings, then we will ask you sign a waiver.

Course Load The college has deadline to drop or add classes, so read your LSSC s so you can keep up the dates. If you drop after the deadline, you will be automatically dropped from DE. If you earn Fs at the college, you will be automatically dropped from DE. Earning Ds will cause your GPA to drop at school and at the college.

(see your packet for the address) Books will need to be returned back to the DE coordinator in Howey. Once you pick up your books, then you need to return the Approval Form to the College. You do this process every semester.

How is DE schedule will impact your schedule at LMHS? Once you complete your DE summer classes, we will enter the grades in your transcript. If you take ENC 1101 at the college, then your counselor will remove AP Language or English 3 or English 4 or AP Lit from your request. After registering for Fall classes at the College, you will need to bring a copy of course selection and your counselor will adjust your schedule. For Fall, you need to register for classes morning or afternoon (after 5 th period) Your counselor won’t sign your Approval Form if you register for classes in the middle of the day (during 3 rd -5 th period. In Fall and Spring, you need to come by Guidance Office to pick up a sticker for your ID/DE Decal for your car.

Dual Enrollment VS AP Classes. LSSC CLASSES ARE WORTH 6.0 GPA JUST LIKE AP CLASSES. Both can earn you college credits. You are building your college transcript, more permanent than HS. DE grades will be placed in your permanent transcript, while AP is only on your High School transcript. Earning C or lower at the college can prevent you from getting accepted to some universities. Some Universities (private or Ivy League) do not accept college credits earned at a community college. While they will accept many AP college credits. Earning 4 or 5 or higher in 1 AP exam can result to 6 college credits. For example, if you pass AP Lang with a 4 or 5, you will skip ENC 1101 and 1102.

Dual Enrollment VS AP Classes. AP= Counselors and parents can view your grades. Not for DE. Counselors receive only the final grades. AP teachers can call your parents to inform them that you are doing poorly. Not DE, not much contact between parents and teachers. DE=will be treated as an adult college student not as minor. Counselors support both programs but YOU must be ready to do DE.

Things you need to know. DE requires individuals who are responsible; mature and presented themselves adults level. Individuals who are successful in the program attend classes regularly, keep up with their assignments, ask for help when needed; procrastinate less; realizing that they are building their college transcripts and DE is not a bragging right to friends. The College and your counselor will treat you as such. The college is closed on Fridays during summer. Pay attention to our for Guidance Office Summer Hours.
