Complex Sentences One way to combine two sentences into one is to use a connecting word that is part of the sentence. Some of these connecting words are after, before, because, if, although, since, and when. This type of sentence is called a complex sentence. Compound Sentence: Joe played tennis, and Vicky watched TV.
