Revising Your Essays PART II

Have Your Essays in Front of you: Do each one of these for each one of your essays:

4. Thesis/Essay Unity Highlight your thesis Highlight each of your topic sentences Topic sentence should tell what the idea of the paragraph is

5. Organization: Reverse Outline Must be unified; write each topic sentence (TS) Does each TS extend the thesis idea? Do all together provide good idea of what essay will argue? Write a topic sentence for each paragraph if one is missing. All ideas of paragraph must go back to that idea.

Thesis: This hopelessness can be traced in the light imagery. TS1: a trace of hope for the couple exists (some light) TS2: the man consciously chooses to give up faith that their relationship will succeed. TS3: As the light weakens, the civility between the parents diminishes Conclusion: The light imagery of the story demonstrates that all hope for the couple vanishes.
