Destiny Quest Library Catalog A 25-minute homeroom lesson designed by Ms. S. Morgan MacDonald, Hamilton Intl. Middle School, Seattle Public Schools (WA)

Information Literacy: Lifetime readers take advantage of advanced features of library catalogs to place holds and request purchases of items not currently available. Crowdsourcing: Citizens in a 21 st -Century Information Society contribute to collective knowledge by rating and reviewing media and recommending media to friends. Citizenship: Savvy library patrons know how to check their account for overdues and fines

1. As soon as possible, reserve Library if available, or reserve enough laptop carts (16 per cart) to accommodate your largest class, by editing the Shared Calendar(s) in Outlook. (If you have not yet opened these, call Ms. Mac to you new links for you to open each of these). In the subject line of your shared calendar appointment, include your name and “w/ headphones.” 2. No later than two school days before, read this presentation and follow the steps to become familiar with the lesson. (If you encounter any problems with the lesson, call Ms. Mac to alert her). 3. If conducting this lesson in the Library, meet your class in your room to take attendance and remind them of library etiquette to enter and walk quietly, then walk them down together. If conducting this class in your room with laptop cart(s), remember to pick up the carts at 7:20-7:30 (with your elevator key), to roll them to your room before the students crowd the hallways. 4. Write the Teaching Purpose on your whiteboard and print a two-sided copy of the Teaching Purpose and Begin upon entering slides that follow. Place a copy at each station. 1.
