GIFT OF ART  When Henri was 22 he became ill with appendicitis – that left him bedridden for a year.  His mother gave him a set of oil paints….Henri was hooked.  “when I first started to paint, I felt transported into a kind of paradise…In everyday life I was usually bored by what people were always telling me what to do. Starting to paint I felt gloriously free, quiet and alone.”

50 YEAR CAREER

DRAWING WITH SCISSORS  In 1941, at the age of 72 Henri became ill again. He could not stand for long, and he could barely hold a brush…  Did he quit or give up?  He began creating “cut-outs”  Cut paper on canvas…..

PATTERN - LAYER PATTERN – a pattern is created when something is repeated LAYER – to place different mediums on top of each other

TODAY’S PROJECT  Black paper for back drop  Choose three (3) papers for geometric shapes  Choose two (2) papers for organic shapes  Use pattern to lay out geometric shapes. Glue in place.  Layer organic shapes on top. Glue in place.
