National Science Foundation The Instrumentation and Facilities Program in the Division of Earth Sciences considers proposals for (1) the acquisition of new research equipment or the modernization of existing equipment, (2) the development of new instrumentation or techniques that extend current research capabilities in the Earth Sciences, (3) the support of shared facilities that make complex and expensive instrument systems available on a national or regional basis, and (4) the support of research technicians.

National Science Foundation First Task: Assemble constituency and organize workshop to discuss goals and structure of a Consortium. ICFAR: Infrasound Consortium for Applied Research The new global infrasound network is soon to become the next branch in Earth’s observing system, one that will provide us with an opportunity to perceive with unprecedented fidelity dynamic processes in the atmosphere The aim of the ICFAR would be to facilitate the study of atmospheric and geophysical processes that generate low- frequency sound by providing expertise, software, data collection equipment, data storage, and data distribution to US and international scientific organizations Cooperation and coordination with the Center for Monitoring Research (CMR), IRIS, NRL, NASA, and NOAA DRAFT !

International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI) Working Group on Volcano Acoustics What are IAVCEI commissions and what do they do? Commissions are the "engines" of IAVCEI; they are where the actual project work is done. Commissions are groups of individuals who work together towards common goals in support of science. Each commission chooses its own leaders and operating style. Some examples of commission activities are: 1) conduct workshops and symposia (see any recent General Assembly program) 2) conduct short courses or provide training 3) produce publications focused on commission topics 4) provide forums for communication: a) web sites b) newsletters c) discussion groups 5) develop databases (e.g. large (>10 km3) explosive eruptions in Holocene) 6) determine and set measurement standards or data formats
