Web Technologies Working Group October 25, 2013

Approval Needed Web Standards and Guidelines – Development of an online resource with the objective of providing collaborative, centralized governance for the ongoing development, deployment, delivery, and maintenance of the Cal Poly Pomona web site. Website Redesign Phase 2b – Phase 2b will include all remaining colleges that elect to be migrated; all remaining pages of the University Library, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and University Advancement that there were not migrated in Phase 2a.

Web Standards and Guidelines Web Technologies Working Group October 25, 2013

Background The Cal Poly Pomona web site contains outdated web guidelines and standards that no longer are applicable and may lead to user confusion. It is necessary to update these guidelines to reflect the current web environment and the use of a content management system. The web team receives on a daily basis questions about what can and cannot be included on web pages.

Background Many universities have developed web standards and guidelines that are made available online in an effort to communicate a consistent message. Examples Include….

University of Massachusetts Web Governance The development of the University of Massachusetts Boston’s website was an extensive undertaking and major investment in enhancing the university’s electronic image. It is important that as a campus community we maintain and all its sub-sites according to best practices and at the highest quality possible.

Northwestern University Web Style Guide Northwestern University's web style guide exists to facilitate consistency and usability and to promote standardized University branding across web sites University-wide.

University of Virginia Web Site Policies Except as noted, the information below applies to official University of Virginia Web sites, which are defined as the official Web pages of University schools, departments, divisions and other units.

Recommendation The Web Technologies Working Group is seeking approval to begin preliminary work on revised guidelines, with the intention of sharing with the IT Governance Executive Committee at a future meeting the proposed scope of the resource for review and input. Drafts of the resource will also be shared with the expectation that the Executive Committee will have comments and suggestions to ensure the resource serves the needs of the campus community.

Website Redesign Phase 2b Web Technologies Working Group October 25, 2013

Background Phase 2 has been divided into two stages – Phase 2a Currently underway with a launch date of spring – Phase 2b If approved today, would kick-off in spring of 2014.

Background- Phase 2a Already approved and underway… Phase 2a includes three colleges selected by the Deans Council - College of Education and Integrative Studies, College of Business Administration, Collins College, as well as Academic Affairs and prioritized University Advancement and Student Affairs sites. The University Library will span both Phase 2a and Phase 2b. Also included in Phase 2a is an interactive, media-rich experience site, “This is Cal Poly Pomona”, which will include video testimonials, photos and stories by and about members of the CPP community.

Recommendation for Phase 2b Phase 2b will include all remaining colleges that elect to be migrated; all remaining pages of the University Library, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and University Advancement that were not migrated in Phase 2a. The targeted kick-off of Phase 2b is Spring 2014; the targeted launch of Phase 2b is Fall 2014

Both Recommendations… Development of an online resource with the objective of providing collaborative, centralized governance for the ongoing development, deployment, delivery, and maintenance of the Cal Poly Pomona web site. Phase 2b will include all remaining colleges that elect to be migrated; all remaining pages of the University Library, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and University Advancement that there were not migrated in Phase 2a.
