Survey Promotions Pre 2011 Students’ Union activity for the Annual Student Survey – Flyers – Student newspaper – Website – Promotions around campus – Incentives

Survey Promotions Pre 2011 University and Students’ Union activity for the National Student Survey – NSS promotional materials – You Said We Did materials – Student newspaper – Training sessions for staff – Lecture shout outs by the Union – Discussions with students – Incentives – Promotional activity around campus – Close monitoring of response rates to target additional promotion

Survey Promotions Pre 2011 University activity to support the Postgraduate Taught Survey – s to all students and postgraduate staff – Viral campaign with postgraduate students – Incentives

Student Survey Season Bringing the surveys together All delivered in the same time frame: February – May Now includes the Postgraduate Research Survey and the Summer Wave of the International Student Barometer Use a single point of delivery through our student portal

Rationale All students have the opportunity to feed back Makes promotion easier Hope to improve response rates across all surveys but particularly the Annual Student Survey

Student Survey Season promotions Dropped the You Said We Did Introduced our Like it campaign in advance of Student Survey Season Followed through with Like it? as the vehicle for promoting engagement with the surveys Extended training programme for academic and administrative colleagues Still offer incentives

So far… SurveyDelivery TimeResponsibleResponse Rate Annual Student Survey February – AprilStudents’ Union and Corporate Projects 11% (+ 5%) National Student Survey February – AprilCorporate Projects61% (+ 2% on same time last year) Postgraduate Taught Survey March - MayCorporate Projects9% (-5% on same time as last year

Lessons Learned Negative – Disappointing response rates so far for both of the postgraduate surveys – Feedback from students that they haven’t ‘seen’ the portal announcement – Does delivering the other surveys in February – May mean that they are over-shadowed by the NSS

Lessons Learned Positive – Improved response rates for the Annual Student Survey – All students feel part of the Student Survey Season – Like it approach has been endorsed by academic colleagues
