The Greatest Violinist of the Victorian Age NICCOLÒ PAGANINI The Greatest Violinist of the Victorian Age

Paganini’s Childhood Niccolò was born in Genoa (Italy) 27’th October 1782, the third of six children of Antonio and Teresa Paganini. His father was an unsuccessful trader, but managed to add on his income of money by playing music on the mandolin. At the age of five Paganini started to learn how to play the mandolin from his father and at the age of seven he moved to the violin.

The beginning of his career By 1800 Paganini and his father travelled to Livorno, where Paganini played in concerts and his father restarted his marine work as a trader. At the age of 18 Paganini was payed as the first violinist of the orchestra of the Republic of Lucca but he made more money by playing private concerts, but he spent this money for gambling and women

HIS GREAT SUCCESS For the next few years Paganini came back in the areas surrounding Parma and Genoa where he was very well known but wanted to be known in other parts of Europe. In 1813 he played a concert in Milan and was a great success and thanks to this he attracted the attention of other famous European musicians.

The end of his career At cause of his weak health in 1834 he put an end to his concerts and turned back to Genoa. His first income became music lessons. In 1836 he went to Paris to set up a casino but lost all his money and had to auction off all his instruments.

Death and burial In the year 1838 he went to Nice where his health worsened. In 1840, after refusing the sacrament of the Last Rites he died from internal hemorrhaging. Although he wasn’t buried with catholic Rites because people thought he made an agreement with the devil because they thought he was so amazing at playing the violin. So at the end he was buried in the cemetary of Parma in 1876.
