Operation Sabbath Mode - SELECT PROGRAM - Lights, alarms and fans Normal Sabbath Overview

This is the Schematic Diagram for the 30” All Refrigerator. In order to begin this training move the cursor over the Main Power Switch. Using your mouse, left Click the switch to begin. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION

When the Main Power switch is turned on, Line Voltage and Neutral are sent to the High Voltage board. Line Voltage is supplied at E10 (L) and Neutral is supplied at E9 (N). This supplies the on-board transformer to provide DC operating voltage. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

The N.C. Light Relay supplies Neutral to the cavity lights and the Sabbath Mode Relay. When set to Sabbath Mode via the Keypad input, the Light relay is energized. This removes the Neutral side from the cavity lights and Sabbath relay coil. This is explained under the Sabbath Mode Section 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

Line Voltage is also supplied from the Main Power switch to E3. This is the common Line voltage feed for the Compressor Relay and the Evaporator Fan relay. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

When the unit is switched ON and the temperature is set, the DC Fan Relay energizes and sends 30 VDC from E1 to Terminal # 4 in the Temperature Translator. This is connected to the coil of the SPDT relay. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

30 VDC enters the Temperature translator and the internal relay energizes. The Relay contact closes to the Normally open contact 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

With the relay engaged, the 180k Ω resistor is brought into the circuit The board reads this as a temperature of approximately 11° F. < 180k Ω The LV board thinks the simulated Freezer is too warm and will turn on the cooling system. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

The L.V board will now close the compressor relay on the H.V. board. 120 volts is sent to the inverter and the condenser fan motor. < 3.5 volts D.C. At the same time 3.5 Volts D.C is sent to the inverter The compressor and condenser fan motor will begin operation Click mouse to advance 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

At the same time that the compressor and condenser fan motor are running, the evaporator fan relay also closes. 120 volts is sent to the upper door switch (N.O.) as well as the N.C. contact of the Sabbath mode relay From there, the voltage enters the temperature translator and supplies primary voltage to the internal transformer Click mouse to advance 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

With power supplied to terminals 1 (L) and 2 (N) of the internal transformer of the Temperature Translator, 24 VDC is produced on the secondary side at terminals #5 and #6. 24 volts is sent to the upper and lower cavity fan motors. The fan motors activate and begin to circulate air throughout the compartment. Click mouse to advance 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

When the Fresh Food Compartment is cold enough, the thermistor is read by the LV Board. The L.V. board will now need to cycle off the fans and the compressor. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

The L.V. board now opens the DC fan relay, removing the 30 volts being sent to the internal relay, terminal #4 of the temperature translator. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

The relay now closes the N.C. contact. This removes the 180k resistor from the circuit and brings the 560k on-line. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

< 560k Ω With the relay engaged, the 560k Ω resistor is brought into the circuit The board reads this as a temperature of approximately -23° F. The L.V board interprets this as a satisfied Freezer Thermistor and will now shut off the cooling system. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

The L.V. board now opens both the compressor relay and the evaporator fan relay. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

With the compressor relay open, we no longer have 120 volts to the compressor and condenser fan motor. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

At the same time, the Evaporator fan relay also opens. With the primary voltage removed from the Temperature Translator, we remove our 24 VDC to the evaporator fans. The unit has now shut off. 30” All Refrigerator Schematic COOLING OPERATION ADVANCE

In Normal operation, the Light Relay is always closed. This provides constant Neutral for the cavity lights and the Sabbath Mode Relay When the Sabbath Mode is activated via the keyboard program, the Light Relay on the H.V. Board is energized. This causes the N.C. contact to Open. ADVANCE

When the Sabbath Mode is activated, the relay will energized and the N.C. contact will open. As you can see, we no longer have a neutral feed to the cavity lights or the Sabbath Mode relay. The light relay will stay engaged until the unit is taken out of Sabbath Mode. SABBATH MODE ADVANCE 30” All Refrigerator Schematic

SABBATH MODE 30” All Refrigerator Schematic In Normal Mode operation, when the unit is operating (Compressor, Condenser fans and evaporator fans) and you open the door, the cavity lights come on and the evaporator fan stops. Above we have the door closed and the cavity fans are running. The Compressor and condenser fans are running as well. Lets see what happens we the door is opened. ADVANCE

SABBATH MODE 30” All Refrigerator Schematic With the door open, The lower Light switch closes and sends line voltage to the cavity lights. ADVANCE Click mouse to advance We have voltage present BUT because the light relay is open there is no neutral return so the lights do not operate.

SABBATH MODE 30” All Refrigerator Schematic At the same time that voltage is being sent to the cavity lights, it is also being sent to the coil of the Sabbath Mode relay. With no Neutral return to the coil, the NC contacts in the relay remain closed. So even though the fan switch contacts are open, we still have a closed circuit to the Primary coil of the Temperature Translator fan transformer. Click mouse to advance ADVANCE

SABBATH MODE 30” All Refrigerator Schematic Therefore, when the unit is set to Sabbath Mode, the lights will not turn on and the cavity fans will continue to run with the door open. Also in Sabbath Mode the door open alarm feature is disabled. ADVANCE

30” All Refrigerator Schematic Lights, alarms and fans When ever the door is opened, the fans will shut off (AR units only) and the lights will turn on. Click the Door Light Switch to open the door

30” All Refrigerator Schematic ADVANCE Line voltage travels through the door light switch to all the cavity lights. Lights, alarms and fans

30” All Refrigerator Schematic Lights, alarms and fans Neutral runs from E12, through the Light relay and exits E13. From E13, neutral flows into the lights Click mouse to advance ADVANCE

30” All Refrigerator Schematic ADVANCE When the door is open and the lights come on, line voltage is also sent to the board to E8 (freezer) and E7 (Refrig). Lights, alarms and fans

30” All Refrigerator Schematic When the door is open and the lights come on, line voltage is also sent to the board to E8 (freezer) and E7 (Refrig). This is the signal voltage to the HV Board that the door is open. When the built-in timer expires, the Door Alarm signal will tone. Closing the door will remove the voltage and the alarm will reset. Lights, alarms and fans ADVANCE

30” All Refrigerator Schematic Lights, alarms and fans When ever the door is opened and the unit is in Sabbath mode, the fans continue to run. If set to standard operation, the fans will shut off (AR units only) This is controlled by the use of a device called the Sabbath mode Relay Click the Door Fan Switch to open the door

30” All Refrigerator Schematic Lights, alarms and fans With the Door open, the door fan switch contacts open. Voltage no longer flows through the switch. ADVANCE

30” All Refrigerator Schematic Lights, alarms and fans With the Door open, the lower light switch closes and provides power for the lights and the door open alarm. It also supplies voltage to the Sabbath Mode relay coil. ADVANCE

30” All Refrigerator Schematic Lights, alarms and fans With a neutral return through the NC light relay on the HV board, the relay will engage and open the NC contact Click mouse to advance With the Sabbath mode relay engaged, and the door fan switch contact open, we have removed line voltage from the primary of the step down transformer inside the Temperature translator ADVANCE

30” All Refrigerator Schematic Lights, alarms and fans The fans stop and the lights are on ADVANCE With power removed from the primary of the step down transformer we no longer have 24 VDC to the cavity fans.
