Presentation transcript:

In November this year Neil Gothard, Chris Cox and Andrew Barber (Ted) will be taking part in a momentous challenge, the Death Valley Cycle challenge. This is a significant task and it’s going to be tough! While it will bring about a huge sense of achievement for them, Neil, Chris and Ted have also decided that they want to make a difference, and therefore, are going to take on the challenge in aid of the Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity. The challenge is the ultimate cycle for charity, Death Valley is a 3.4 million acre park, located in Nevada, USA in the Southern Californian desert. The boys will be conquering 420km by bicycle, with steep hill climbs and vast drops, on average completing 60 miles a day for four days plus a 30 mile day to start them off. © 2007 Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. You will have all heard of the Great Ormond Street Children's Charity (GOSH), GOSH works tirelessly to care for children with life affecting illnesses, sometimes terminal, they not only treat the child, they also care for the family, through what can only be one of the most traumatic times. Due to the support from the charity Great Ormond Street are able to concentrate in four main areas of development: Re-development of the hospital – many of the inpatient wards are housed in a building built in the 1930s, which is increasingly unsuitable for the treatment of seriously ill children. Medical research – this is phenomenal, GOSH has developed the very first heart-lung bypass machine to allow open-heart surgery in children, and pioneered amazing new research into stem cell treatments. Further to that they have also launched the nation's first leukaemia research unit in an effort to lead international clinical trials. Medical equipment – leading-edge equipment is vital so that the exceptional doctors and nurses can improve diagnosis and treatments and continue to provide children with world-class care. Accommodation and welfare - There are few greater challenges for a parent than when their child is ill. Providing welfare and support for families and staff is so important as it allows everyone to concentrate on what matters most – caring for the patients. This is an amazing cause, which will one day hopefully win some of the battles against some of the major diseases and infections that are around today. © 2007 Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. In the next six months there will be an on-going fundraising campaign taking place to raise money for GOSH Charity, the final event will be the Death Valley Cycle Challenge. Throughout the year we will aim to be carrying out a number of fundraising events, all events will be fully confirmed in the next few weeks, the current events being investigated are as follows: The EventLocation / Detail Black Tie Vegas Night BallBuckingham Town Hall Motorsport EventAn evening with Technical Expert Gary Anderson Picnic in the ParkThornborough Pub QuizIn the Two Brewers in Thornborough © 2007 Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. There are some great opportunities for local businesses to get involved in all the activities over the next six months. We have varying sponsorship packages available from title sponsorship to small items towards our events. Anything at all that you feel you could help with would be greatly appreciated as it means more of the over all funds we raise can go directly to the charity. We also have a ‘Brick Wall’ which you can buy into, again the costs for this vary depending on the space that you would like to buy. Our brick wall makes up a sponsor background which will be present at all of our events and it is a fun way to get involved. Finally any donations towards raffles and auctions would be fantastic, we will be holding a raffle at every event we do and auctions at the larger events, any prize big or small would be very welcome. © 2007 Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
