I belong to God’s family. I have responsibilities Year 3 I belong to God’s family. I have responsibilities

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO LEARN ABOUT OURSELVES? God made each of us We were all made in God’s image Although we are all different, God loves each of us more than we can understand God wants us to understand the gift of life given to us God wants us to understand and love the body as a gift

WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT We are all different heights Our height continues to change as we grow

We are all different weights… This doesn’t matter to God God still loves us!

We look different… What we look like doesn’t matter to God

We can all do different things… God loves us no matter what we can do

Some of us are stronger than others… God still loves us the same!

WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT When the world was created, God put two types of people on the earth BOYS (MALES) GIRLS (FEMALES) This is called our GENDER (or our SEX) Eg. The sex of the baby is male or female

GOD LOVES BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS EQUALLY

HOW DO GIRLS’ BODIES LOOK DIFFERENT FROM BOYS’ BODIES What is different?

WORDS WE SHOULD KNOW, WORDS WE SHOULD USE… It is important to call things by their real name Breasts Penis/Testicles Vagina Bottom (everybody’s got one!)

OUR BODIES ARE OUR GIFTS FROM GOD… Our bodies are our own We should love and look after our bodies by eating good food, exercising and getting a good night’s sleep, getting hugs and breathing

WHO HAS THE RIGHT TO TOUCH OUR BODIES… Because our bodies are our gift given to us from God, we can choose who can touch them No one has the right to touch us in places we don’t allow them Our bodies are a gift, others should respect our gift!

WE ARE GROWING UP… We are getting taller We are getting stronger We are becoming more responsible for ourselves God’s plan for us is to grow up BIRTH  TODDLER  CHILD  ADOLESCENT  ADULT

BECOMING ALIVE God is very clever in the way we were created All the growing that we need to survive is done in the 9 months in our mother’s tummy Words we need to know: Sperm Egg Womb (Uterus) Umbilical Cord Breast Fed/Bottle Fed

MEANINGS OF THESE WORDS SPERM: the sex cell that comes from the male EGG: the sex cell that comes from the female EGG + SPERM = NEW LIFE WOMB (UTERUS): inside the mother there is a cavity where the baby grow. It expands as the baby gets bigger.

MORE WORDS… UMBILICAL CORD: the special cord that attaches the baby to its mother. Food and nutrients necessary to survive inside the womb travel through this cord. The baby’s wastes are also delivered Back to the mum for her to get rid of.

BREAST FED/BOTTLE FED Either way is fine.

FAMILY STRUCTURES… Like us, families come in all different shapes and sizes Some have a mum and dad Some have step mums and dads Some have single parents Some people are adopted, Some people are fostered Either way, God loves us all

REMEMBER… God loves you because you are special Boys and girls are different but God loves them the same We should use the correct names for our body parts No one has the right to touch our body if we don’t let them God loves us no matter what our family structure
