 The word is derived from the French word”diamant” which means diamond.  This is a seven-line formula poem written in the shape of a diamond.

 This poetic form helps you apply your knowledge of: opposites parts of speech conflict

Its poetic formula asks that you:  Count the words on every line  Insert particular kinds of words

Baby wrinkled tiny crying wetting sleeping rattles diapers money house caring working loving smart helpful Adult

 Line 1: one noun as the subject  Line 7: noun that is the subject’s opposite  Line 2: two adjectives describing the subject  Line 3: three participles (verb ending in - ing) telling about the subject  Line 4: four nouns (the first two related to the subject; second two related to the opposite)  Line 5: three participles about the opposite  Line 6: two adjectives describing the opposite

 Choose two nouns - One noun as the subject - One noun that is the opposite of the subject

 Search for the right words to express your ideas and feeling.  The message of the poem is always more important than adhering to the formula.  Something you need to know: ◦ A participle is a verb + “ing” (Ex: talking)  Let’s try one together!
